Three Provincial Oil Paintings

The provincial scenes in the area where I live have become my focus for painting lately. The landscapes and seascapes are naturally beautiful; beaches, sand dunes, rocky shores, harbors, ocean... all offer a rich visual experience for an artist. The North Shore of Boston is a tourist attraction because of its stunning scenery, and the three paintings shown here, both plein air and studio work, are meant to depict that beauty.

The large green buoy sits (or floats) a little farther north, in Portsmouth, NH. These giant "sculptures"  dot the  busy waterway on the out of Portsmouth Harbor for points East. In this case, we were headed out to the Isles of Shoals, and the buoy got caught in the boat's wake, causing it to sway and roll.

The kids at the tide pool is situated near where I live. Titled Curiosity at the Tide Pool, I wanted to show how the tourists are always poking around in the pools, fascinated by the many types of interesting creatures the sea leaves behind when the tide goes out. I especially like how the groups of people form interesting compositions, such as this one, where all are turned with curiosity at what lies below the water. And on my walks, if the tide is out, so am I, still.
