Oil paint has a particular viscosity that's pleasing to look at when applied in a creative way. You can almost "feel" the sensuous quality with your eyes. No differently than with musical composition and the way a combination of notes can evoke powerful emotions. That's art. The attempt in this painting of a restaurant table with linen cloth and chairs is to use the paint medium to express the scene's poetic character.
Those who follow my art know that I have done many restaurant scenes (see website category "Restaurants" at www.karlbronk.com). For good reason. Restaurants offer the perfect qualities of texture, lighting, color and overall ambiance to express the beautiful personality of the oil medium. In this painting, the linen tablecloth, tableware and chairs offered me the opportunity to romanticize the poetic qualities of these items beyond their stark, utilitarian reality.
