Long Boats at Dock

The thing about dories is that their design and coloring have such an appeal to the eye. I think it's a universal response. I never met anyone who didn’t see dories as a beautiful construction, not to mention their romantic historical legacy. It’s that combination that keeps drawing me to portray them on canvas. I have given this painting a more expressive treatment by use of color and brushwork. Much of the work was done with a palette knife. Over-layering paint forms a rich texture of colorations that sculpt a truer construction of the boat. And with a more expressive treatment, the painting takes on a truer representation of my personal interpretation of these boats.
