Morning Light

The morning light shining bright on these dories made them glow like neon. But beyond their visual beauty there was something else. It’s a special, spiritual moment when boats sit tranquilly on a calm and peaceful body of water that lulls you into one of those hypnotizing, all-embracing moments you never want to let go of.

And so I sat in the moment, sketching and observing these dories as they sat for me, still as a painting. The yellow one is a favorite of mine. I’ve painted it before. Its shape evokes something deep within that says this is the most perfect boat design for slicing through water with the least effort. There's something innate about the idea; it reminds me of how there's a hierarchy of good, better and best in the process of Life. And that over time Good and Better fall away to allow for the refinement of Best.
