Downtown Traffic

City traffic is excitement, energy, movement, rhythm, sounds and colors. Without traffic, a city isn't a true metropolis. To be in city traffic is to be part of the experience, part of the pulse. For an artist, city traffic offers many opportunities in composition and texture particularly the unique qualities of metallic reflection off the molded shapes of stylish cars. In one sense, cars are moving mirrors that offer a glimpse at what lies beyond the picture plane. Cityscape as content also provides many opportunities express the vitality of movement and the sometimes literal vibration of energy. When I look at this painting, I can't help hear honking horns reverberate off the tall buildings and the grinding gears and thundering rumble of trucks on a battered street.
