Working the Flower Market

I was attracted to this scene because of the color, shapes, textures, and the compositional flow of the flowers. But also because of these two women creating floral arrangements to sell at the flower market. Buried in a sea of color, they are a part of a huge bouquet. The woman in the center concentrates on the gathering of a new arrangement, while the woman on the left seems to be attending to a customer out of view. The flowing motion of this scene, the sway of color, and the women embraced by it all spoke to me of naturalness, beauty and honest work.

Painted on pure linen canvas, 20x24
