A Room at the Vose Gallery

As an artist having an acute sensitivity and appreciation for art, it was with great pleasure to paint this room at the Vose Gallery in Boston http://www.vosegalleries.com, where the oil painting by Gertrude Fiske called Nude hangs. While painting a copy of her painting, as I did as an art student at museums, I was better able to see her intent and execution, particularly in her sophisticated use of color. (I don't know who painted the still life next to it.) The sculptures by Elliot Offner are entitled Horse and Kite, which is a form of eagle. Yet, as attracted as I was to the many fine objects in the room, what drew me most to this scene was the overall feel of the room itself. The elements of lighting and colors and splash of blue reflection splayed across the table, the complementary gray-green hue of walls and antique furniture anchoring the bottom of the painting all seemed to swirl in a perfect ambient orchestration, which overwhelmed my desire to capture and make permanent.
