Hot Sand

The final of three paintings featuring the little girl in the large floppy hat, I called this one "Hot Sand", because the hot surface sand was biting the souls of her feet. She doesn't seem to mind though, because her thoughts are elsewhere. There are many aspects of this painting that I like, such as how the sunlight catches the cloth of her stripped dress, casts her shadow image on the sand, and hides her face in cool shadow. But mostly, I like the way her posture reflects a quiet demeanor and pensiveness. What is a young girl in this age thinking about?
