Entryway measures 26x16 inches. The long vertical enhances the foreground doorway and invites the viewer to enter the painting. The composition is strongly inward-moving and suggests the depth of a third dimension. The paintings on the wall are also a strong draw and pulls the viewer through the doorway and into the inner domain of the scene. Capturing the aura of environmental space has become an objective in many of my paintings. Many things happen within an environment: lighting and shadows can play out all their subtleties; space is defined by its parameters to create depth. As with other recent paintings which depict reflections, there is a backward and forward movement that draws in the viewer who wants to satisfy a natural curiosity about what lies beyond the two-dimensional picture plane.Sunday, January 16, 2011
